Tourism sits within the department of Economic Development in Cardiff Council and works collaboratively with culture, venues & events.

There are seven strands to the team that are all ultimately working towards developing a unique tourism and day visitor offer based upon innovative and especially curated experiences and high levels of service standards that reflect the great cultural, heritage and sporting strengths of Cardiff as the capital city of Wales.

Tourism Strategy and Research

Tourism strategy and research is responsible for developing the Tourism Action Plan and Strategy 2015-2020 which is a destination action plan for Cardiff. We also provide data on visitor habits which includes where visitors are travelling from, overnight stays and the economic benefit of major events.

Cardiff Convention Bureau

The aim of the Cardiff Convention Bureau is to promote Cardiff as a business tourism destination by creating awareness and generating significant economic benefits to the city:

Visit Cardiff is the official marketing, tourism and partnership organisation for the city. Our mission is to maximise travel and tourism opportunities, build economic prosperity and promote the dynamic image of the Welsh capital around the world. Our innovative marketing campaigns target both international visitors and residents through content creation, interactive social networking, strategic partnerships and membership networks. Meet Cardiff promotes the city as a business tourism destination to meeting and event planners. The Cardiff Convention Bureau offers a free and impartial venue finding service which generates significant economic benefits to the city.

Invest focuses on information for potential inward investment interest to Cardiff and aims to position it as Europe’s most liveable capital city.

Travel Trade

Visit Cardiff participates in over 12 trade exhibitions each year with the aim of enhancing existing tours to Cardiff and introducing Cardiff as a must see destination to new programs. We work with tour operators, travel agents, coach operators, professional conference organisers and event management companies. Members have the opportunity to co-exhibit or receive full representation via our media pack and itineraries which we prepare.

The Visit Cardiff Network

A membership body made up of over 100 businesses within Cardiff and the surrounding areas. Our members include conference venues, hotels, serviced apartments, tour operators, retail outlets, restaurants and sports teams who have all joined together with the common goal of reaching a wider international audience.

 

Venues Marketing

The venues team provide a marketing service for the venues of the Cardiff collection which include City Hall, Mansion House, Norwegian Church and Cardiff Castle, whilst ensuring strong brand recognition for each venue.

Event Marketing

The city of Cardiff council events team work on a full calendar of diverse and inclusive events which have a positive economic impact on the city and include the RHS Flower Show, Christmas in Cardiff, the Cardiff International Food and Drink Festival and the Cardiff Children’s Literature Festival. In addition to these core council events, the team also work to deliver a number of partner and major sporting events held in the capital.
