Collecting, preserving and presenting the lived history of old Cardiff Bay

Butetown History and Arts Centre (BHAC) collects, preserves and presents the lived history of old Cardiff Bay. The exhibitions, books and other materials that we produce draw on the photographs, documents and memories of local people. Based in the heart of Cardiff Bay, BHAC is a unique, innovative scheme. Our work, which began in 1987, involves local people in collaboration with professional researchers, artists and media workers. People’s histories, together with cultural democracy, are the backbone of our work.

By road

Exit the M4 at Junction 33 and follow signs for Cardiff Bay on the A4232. Take the slip road on the left before the Butetown Tunnel, signposted for Techniquest. At the roundabout, take the first exit and follow the road around onto Bute Street.

Public transport

The centre is only 5 minutes from Cardiff Bay Rail Station and is also close to stops for the Baycar bus number 6.
