Future developments
Cardiff has changed dramatically in the last ten years. The Cardiff Bay waterfront, the Millennium Stadium, the Brewery Quarter, luxury hotels, award winning restaurants, gastro-bars, designer shops - all have appeared within the last decade. But Cardiff's development is far from over, and billions of pounds are being spent on projects that will further transform the city and region.
International Sports Village (ISV)
This major £700 million project in Cardiff Bay will further enhance Cardiff's reputation as a sporting city. The development will feature a 50m swimming pool which has recently opened, a real snow ski dome, a sports arena that will host ice hockey, gymnastics, judo and other sports; casinos, restaurants, hotels and a 400ft viewing tower that will offer views across South Wales and the Bristol Channel. www.cardiffsportsvillage.co.uk
White Water Centre
As part of the International Sports Village a 250m Olympic standard canoe slalom centre will open in 2010. The £8.4m centre is expected to attract 50,000 users per year for white water rafting, canoeing and kayaking. This is due to open spring 2010. www.cardiffsportsvillage.co.uk
Cardiff Story
A free museum telling the story of Cardiff, is set to open in the old library in the Hayes in 2010. The museum will feature stories, objects, photographs and film telling the history of Cardiff through the eyes of those who created the city – its people. City Centre developments
Cardiff Councils city centre development plans for 2007-2010 include redeveloping Central Square, including a new bus station, restricting access to St Mary Street to only buses and taxis and widening the pavements, and improving links between the city centre and Cardiff Bay.
