People love Cardiff – and they’re not shy about telling us what they think. Here is a selection of what journalists have written and what visitors have said about their time in the capital of Wales.
Would recommend
'Six of us have just returned from a week-end in Cardiff. Stayed at the Parc Thistle which was beautiful, with friendly helpful staff. Cardiff is a wonderful city with a diversity between old and new. Would recomend the Bay cruise with Aquabus, best fivers worth in a long time. The people we came across were friendly and helpful and proud of their city. Would recommend Cardiff for a visit'

Very Romantic
'I stayed in Cardiff this weekend, and I loved it! It's one of the loveliest cities I've ever seen. All built around Cardiff Castle. I bought a reproduction of Cardiff City Hall by Marianne Brand, it's on the wall now. The best thing I've seen are the arcades (Castle Arcade!). Very romantic.'
Jesse Beentjes - Alkmaar, Holland
Wonderful Experience
'My wife and I have just had a superb weekend in Cardiff, we were down for the Speedway Grand Prix at the Millennium Stadium. We would like to go on record to thank all the wonderful people that we met. Everybody we had contact with was helpful and very pleasant and had all the time in the world to help us!!
Thanks for a wonderful experience and a big thank you to all the people of Cardiff who did your city proud!!'

Sporting Heaven
'This season Cardiff Bay has come in to its own. Regeneration has given the waterfront area an enviable line-up of boutique hotels, top-class restaurants and stylish bars …
Whatever the weather, sporty types will be in heaven at the new Cardiff International Sports Village.'
Daily Mirror
Amazing weekend
'My husband and I have just returned from an amazing weekend spent in your fantastic city and just felt that I needed to let you know what a great place we thought it was. Someone is obviously working very hard to make it a welcoming and vibrant capital and it's paying off. You deserve to be very proud of your city and the people who work and live there. We will certainly be back when all of the re-development is complete. Can't wait!'
Melissa Cassily - Coventry
Transformed
'…if there's anywhere that truly signifies the changing fortunes of the capital, it's down at this southernmost point of the city (Cardiff Bay). Little more than a decade ago, it was … a tatty docklands area and a far cry from times gone by when it was the world's busiest coal port.
But … it's been transformed beyond all recognition. Plush hotels, bars, restaurants and apartments coexist with arts and crafts galleries, comedy clubs, children's attractions and striking architecture from different eras.'
Sydney Morning Herald
Capital of cool
'The Welsh city's modern and established venues help make it a capital of cool. The past decade has seen such a tide of development in the Welsh capital that anyone who hasn't visited for a while will be stunned by the depth of change, particularly as it has been acheived without compromising the city's existing charm.'

Friendly people
'We loved the city, the friendly people and its atmosphere so much we booked for two nights and stayed a week.'
Willem and Nel Haarten, Zeeland, Netherlands
Trendiest spot
Cardiff Bay…now rivals the city centre as the trendiest place in South Wales. The people are friendly, there is lots to do and even more to see. The atmosphere of rugby day in Cardiff is like nothing else.
