Cardiff Bay is home to the wales branch of torchwood – an elite unit who use alien technology to solve both human and alien crime.
The special operations team, headed by Captain Jack Harkness, is based in 'The Hub' - a high-tech operations centre hidden beneath the wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay - which is also the centre of The Rift, a tear in the fabric of space and time that has resulted in increased extra-terrestrial activity in the city.

The futuristic wales Millennium Centre, the stylish Altolusso apartment buildings and Cardiff's thriving bar and club scene have all already been featured on Torchwood. Explore our locations map to learn more about the Torchwood filming locations.

Cardiff - home of Doctor Who

tardis (c) BBCYou can pick up a location map and spot the Cardiff sights that double as locations for Doctor Who and Torchwood. Combine a visit to the Doctor Who Up-close exhibition in Cardiff Bay with a tour of the locations.

Shooting has begun on the new series of Doctor Who, which will feature Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor when the new series starts in 2010. When the Doctor returns he'll be dashing across the universe with Amy Pond, played by Karen Gillan.

The series, and its two spin-off shows, Torchwood and the Adventures of Sarah Jane, are filmed on location in Cardiff, and make use of locations such as the Millennium Stadium, Queen's Arcade Shopping Centre and Wales Millennium Centre.

Cardiff is also home to the Doctor Who Up Closeexhibition in the Red Dragon Centre. Visitors can see props, costumes and monsters from the show, including Cybermen and Daleks. A Doctor Who location map is also available from the exhibition.
