National Museum Cardiff
Two wealthy Welsh sisters bequeathed their large art collection to the museum and gallery in the mid 20th century, resulting in Cardiff owning one of the largest collections of Impressionist paintings outside of Paris, with works by Renoir, Monet and Cezanne on display (Free entry, closed Mondays).
Chapter Arts Centre
Chapter has earned a reputation as one of the most diverse arts centres in Europe, and combines theatre, art, film, music and literature into one venue. The gallery hosts exhibitions by artists from across the globe, and is the venue for the annual Experimentica Festival, boasting some of Britain's most dynamic art.
G39
G39 expands into three floors of artspace and is renowned internationally as one of Cardiff’s leading contemporary artspaces. The gallery often exhibits recent art graduates alongside international artists, and focuses on installation, photography, video and sculpture.
Ffotogallery
Ffotogallery is Wales’ premier gallery devoted to photography featuring touring exhibitions from Welsh and international photographers; the centre also runs regular photography projects, provides drop-in facilities and runs photography courses.
CBAT Gallery
CBAT- Cardiff’s art and regeneration society, is responsible for commissioning works of public art around the city. The organisation also runs a gallery in Cardiff Bay, which hosts exhibitions from international and local artists.
TactileBOSCH
TactileBOSCH opened as a fledgling art facility in June 2000, in what was once a Victorian laundry in the Llandaff North area of Cardiff. The gallery has since developed into a popular experimental art gallery, primarily used as artists studios and an alternative exhibition space. The gallery houses 10 artists in residence and provides free space for local, emerging artists.
Trace
Trace Gallery, run by acclaimed artist Andre Stitt, specialises in time based art with performance, installation, interactive and sonic elements. As well as month long exhibitions and performances from international artists, the gallery also produces a series of one-off live presentations by visiting artists. Installations can be viewed by appointment only.
Butetown History & Arts Centre
Based in the heart of Cardiff Bay, BHAC is a unique, innovative scheme. It involves local people in collaboration with professional researchers, artists and media workers. BHAC collects, preserves, copies and uses oral histories, old photographs and other documents and organises exhibitions and courses.
Washington Gallery
The Washington Gallery, located in the centre of Penarth is open during most of the year for 7 days a week, 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-5pm Sunday. Closed on Sunday in the early part of the year. From the beginning the gallery has always been popular for those interested in new art. The Washington Gallery is truly a valuable community resource, and one that tries to support as many Welsh artists each year as can be accommodated!
Castle Gallery
A selection of figurative, landscape and contemporary work with original, limited edition prints and sculpture available. Castle Gallery have been selling art for 10 years and represent some of the finest collectable artists in the country. All of the art is beautifully framed, utilising the finest materials
Craft in the Bay
Situated in a restored maritime warehouse their gallery displays high quality crafts by their members. Activities also include national and international exhibitions, educational courses, conference facilities and Kemi's Cafe.
Martin Tinney Gallery
Martin Tinney Gallery was established in Cardiff in 1989 and is now considered to be Wales’ premier private commercial art gallery. The gallery specialises predominantly in Welsh and Wales-based artists of the highest quality, past and present.
