Cardiff has notched up a fine reputation as a sporting capital thanks to hosting a veriety of major events such as the 1999 and 2007 Rugby World Cup, the FA Cup final, and the Wales Rally GB. The capital city has now also been chosen to represent the UK as a European City of Sport. The city won the title after a two-day visit by judges from the European Capitals of Sport Association (ACES).

Wales will host the Ryder Cup tournament in 2010, with the matches being played at The Celtic Manor Resort, just 20 minutes from Cardiff.
