Cardiff upbeat after FA Cup fairytale

Cardiff welcomed its FA Cup Final heroes back home with pride at the end of a momentous season for the club.
The Bluebirds fairytale run in the UK’s top cup competition came to an end against Portsmouth at Wembley but the team returned home with a pledge to go all out to get to the Premier League next season.
The Bluebirds’ success was hailed by political leaders in Cardiff and in the Assembly Government.
Cardiff Council leader Rodney Berman said: “In reaching the FA Cup Final for the first time in 81 years, Cardiff City really boosted confidence in Cardiff, raising the profile of the capital and projecting the city to the massive worldwide TV audience that saw the game.”

And First Minister Rhodri Morgan praised the team’s efforts on the pitch. He said: “The players, Dave Jones, fans and everyone involved in the club can be immensely proud of the team.”
Cardiff & Co chairman Bill Savage said: “After hosting the FA Cup Final at the Millennium Stadium for six years, it was fitting that Cardiff should make the trip to the new Wembley for this prestigious fixture.
“The success of Cardiff City is a mirror of the success of the city region. With an investment programme of more than £2 billion in the city, Ashes cricket in 2009 and the Ryder Cup in 2010, Cardiff is certainly the place to watch over the next few years.”
