Cardiff’s more than just a match - be a Champion with Francis’ insider tips
Shw’mae? That’s Welsh for ‘hello’. I’m Francis Dupuy. I’ve lived in Cardiff for nearly 30 years, having moved here from my native Limoges in 1989.Find out more about the UEFA Champions League Final in Cardiff
Cardiff’s got a lively French community but this June there could be even more of us in the city, with the UEFA Men and Women’s Champions League Finals coming here.
Why I Love Cardiff
The people are so warm and welcoming, and that combined with the established restaurant and café culture really reminds me of home. For a UK city, it feels very European in the way it mixes business with socialising on the city streets.
My Cardiff Legend
Fans from France – whether they support Monaco, the Lyon women’s team or football in general will know that Paris on a match-day is special, but wait until they experience Cardiff! How many other places have a 74,500 seat stadium right in the middle of the city? In the time I’ve been here, the Principality Stadium, or the Millennium Stadium as we used to call it, has hosted FA Cup Finals, the Rugby World Cup, Olympic football and Wales internationals. It is perfect venue for the Champions League Final.
Cardiff’s so much more than a 90 minute city. Even if Monaco or Lyon don’t make the final, make it your next city break. There’ll be a welcome waiting in Chez Francis.
