Cardiff’s more than just a match- be a Champion with Giovanni’s insider tips

Read this guide in Italian

Shw’mae? That’s Welsh for ‘hello’.  I’m Giovanni Malacrino. I was born in Reggio Calabria, but I was brought up in Cardiff, and I have lived here for the past 35 years after a short stint in New Jersey, USA. So I’m a true Welsh Italian.

Cardiff’s got a lively Italian community but this June there could be even more of us in the city, with the UEFA Men and Women’s Champions League Finals coming here.

Why I Love Cardiff

It’s a growing capital city with lots of up and coming opportunities. The Welsh people are also just like Italians – they love to eat, drink, laugh and sing. Plus they love their football.

My Cardiff Legend

My Cardiff legend is Joe Calzaghe. Obviously he’s well known in the boxing world, but he has done so much for the city that I don’t think he’s been recognised as much for. Plus he ended his career undefeated, which is an incredible achievement.

Cardiff’s so much more than a 90 minute city.  Even if Juventus don’t make the final, make it your next city break.  There’ll be a welcome waiting in Giovanni’s.
