Cardiff Bay's Strada offers a waterfront view and Al Fresco dining making it a great spot for lunch with friends or dinner with family in the summer.

Located in the hub of restaurants in the Bay is Strada, a contemporary Italian restaurant which has cropped up in many cities across the UK.

The interior is smart with quirky egg shaped lighting and a Prosecco bar serving Bellini’s, Spritzers and Peroni beer.

In typical Italian style, a meal begins with the option of Bread & Olives with extra virgin olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar. The buttery olives from Sicily were presented in a bowl alongside a rich red Greek variety, marinated in rosemary, lemon and garlic. It’s safe to say, you don’t get much more Mediterranean than this.

The starter plates are full of familiar Italian favourites such as Antipasti, Tomato Bruschetta and Arancini. The arancini is superb, oozing from the thin and crispy coating is a soft and creamy rice that goes beautifully with the spicy tomato passata. For adventurous types, the meaty shell-on Seared King Prawns were another option that require a more hands on approach, but rest assured a hand cleanser is provided too.

For your main meal, Strada’s menu is loaded with options from pasta and pizza to rissotto, salad, meat and fish. If you’re a little indecisive the restaurant have highlighted their favourite dishes on the menu with a little love heart, one of which was their Tagliatelle Bolognese that blends slow cooked pork and beef ragu with red wine and herbs.

The Cardiff Bay eatery also has daily specials and offers such as Pizza for £5 on Mondays after midday. It’s also good to know starter size portions and gluten free pasta is available for diners with smaller appetites or intolerances.

If you’re tempted to squeeze in a dessert, definitely try their Panna Cotta, a delightfully light and creamy texture with a fresh vanilla flavouring. Alternatively, you have the option of lemon ricotta cheesecake, tiramisu, chocolate fondant and more. Of course if you were really committed to having an authentic Italian experience, liquers like limoncello, dessert wine or Musetti coffee is also available.

Strada is a stylish restaurant that has made a conscious effort to appeal to all tastes with vegetarian, gluten free and small portion options. Fortunately this effort is not in vain as the quality of the food and friendly service also lived up to expectation.
