Artes Mundi is an internationally focused arts organisation. It identifies, recognises and supports contemporary visual artists who engage with the human condition, social reality and lived experience, and is best known for its biennial international Exhibition and Prize, which takes place in Cardiff.
This year’s shortlist, selected from over 450 nominations and spanning 86 countries, is a diverse selection of international artists spanning different generations and cultures. They include some of the pioneers of current contemporary art practice on the world stage:
Anna Boghiguian (Canada/Egypt)
Bouchra Khalili (Morocco/France)
Otobong Nkanga (Nigeria/Belgium)
Trevor Paglen (USA)
Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Thailand)
The winner of Artes Mundi 8, announced on 24th January 2019, will receive a prize of £40,000GBP or equivalent local currency.
