Cardiff Dance Festival
1st November 12:00 am - 30th November 12:00 am
Cardiff Dance Festival is a new initiative taking place biannually from 2015. There will be performances to see, projects you can get involved in and workshops and discussions to get your mind and body ticking.
Performances are taking take place at Chapter, the Dance House and Wales Millennium Centre. There will be productions from Wales and the UK, and a rich seam of work by international artists.
Weaving its way through the programme will be an exploration of the relationship between dance and music, with many events involving live music or original soundscapes.
Looking to the future
Our long-term aim is to help achieve a thriving ecology for dance in Cardiff. There are many ways to do that, and particular things festivals can be good at.
We want to encourage collaboration and partnership between organisations as a cornerstone of what we do. Developing and reaching new audiences will be another, and we want to support training and professional development in an ambitious way.
With this first version of the festival we’ve tried to develop the festival’s collaborative model and have been able to involve a variety of partners. We also need to make sure we cover the core strands around which the festival’s future life will be built. These are performance, getting involved and professional development.
We’re working on the basis that the festival will take place every two years. The flavour of different festivals will change over time. We’re certain, though, that a commitment to presenting work by leading companies and practitioners based in Wales, alongside performances of exemplary work by UK and international artists, will remain a constant.
