The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (RI) was founded in 1831 and is one of the oldest and most respected watercolour institutions. It was originally formed to promote and exhibit the best in contemporary watercolour and water- based media painting, and still does to this day.
The RI is often asked to exhibit in major galleries all over the world, and is delighted to be exhibiting at the Albany Gallery, one of Wales’ most successful and long-established art galleries, opened in 1965 by Mary Yapp, who remains the current owner.
The RI exhibition at The Albany Gallery in Cardiff opens on Thursday 12 October, until Saturday 4 November. With more than 20 RI Members taking part, this show incorporates differing styles and a variety of subject matter ranging from traditional watercolour painting to more contemporary work in various water-soluble media such as gouache and acrylic.
