We are coming as Torchwood Team land in Cardiff
20th July 2009

The new Torchwood DVD, ‘Children of Earth’ was launched in Cardiff on Friday with a touch of drama as Captain Jack and his team arrived by helicopter in Cardiff Bay – home of the Torchwood Hub.
The stars were in Cardiff to promote the release of the new Torchwood DVD at the city’s HMV store. Despite efforts to keep the landing a secret, hundreds of Torchwood fans gathered at Cardiff’s Oval Basin to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars including John Barrowman who plays Captain Jack, Gwen Cooper played by Eve Myles and Ianto, aka, Gareth David-Lloyd.
After stopping briefly to have their pictures taken, the cast were whisked off to the city centre courtesy of Flight Link Wales.
Richard Thomas, the Managing Director of Cardiff & Co, the company charged with promoting the city said, “We were approached by 2 Entertain to find an exciting location to land the helicopter flying in from London and the Oval Basin as the Torchwood Hub was the obvious choice.
“Last week’s nightly primetime screening of Torchwood – Children of Earth was a phenomenal success attracting almost six million viewers in the UK. Torchwood also has a growing fan base across the Atlantic and I’m sure Children of Earth will prove a big hit when it’s released in the U.S. Recently Ed Martin who writes for the top U.S website, the Huffington Post said of Torchwood, ‘This is one of the finest television productions you’ll see all year’.
“This is clearly a tremendous accolade for the BBC Wales production team. In terms of the benefits to Cardiff as the filming location and home of the Torchwood Hub, the opportunities are there to be grasped. I’m told that images of Torchwood Children of Earth are everywhere in America, on buses and billboards. Publicity on this scale provides great exposure for Cardiff and could play a significant part in attracting additional first-time visitors to the city, providing a welcome boost for the hotel and leisure industry. It also reinforces the city’s reputation as a media centre of excellence.
“John Barrowman, Eve Myles and Gareth David-Lloyd are great ambassadors for Cardiff and have never been shy in their praise of the capital city.”
