Cardiff to be in highest echelons of shopping premier league
4th August 2009

Members of the Cardiff Tourism Network – Cardiff & Co’s network for the city-region’s tourism industry - have been given a glimpse of one of the most exciting retail developments in Europe – the new St David’s Shopping Centre which will open to the public on 22 October. Speaking at the latest Cardiff Tourism Network quarterly event at the Holiday Inn in Cardiff, Steven Madeley, Centre Director with the St David’s Partnership set out how the centre will elevate Cardiff into the top echelons of shopping destinations in the UK.
Adding to the excitement is the news that the centre’s shops and restaurants will be open until 8pm and 12pm respectively, breathing new life into the city-centre’s evening economy.
The St David’s Partnership has put a lot effort into ensuring that the customer experience is a good one and this is reflected in the extremely favourable car parking charges which look to be amongst the most competitive in the UK.
The opening of the new St David’s will be preceded on 24 September by John Lewis – the company’s largest store outside London – an expression of faith in the potential of the capital city.
A recent snapshot by the British Property Federation into the proportion of shops lying empty in Wales offers cause for optimism for the capital city, with Cardiff being the only area to experience a decrease in the percentage of empty shops in June 2009 compared to the same period last year.
