Christmas' first snowfall forecast at St David's

9th November 2010

The winter’s first snowfall has been forecast this Friday as St David’s hosts a magical start to its Christmas celebrations.

Snow will begin to fall on The Hayes at St David’s in Cardiff at 4pm, creating a winter wonderland for families to enjoy.

Visitors will be met by snowmen on The Hayes as the St David’s Christmas lights are  officially switched on. Entertainers will be on hand to create a festive atmosphere with music performed by the Salvation Army Band. Children will also be invited to post their letters to Santa in a special Royal Mail post box at the Christmas event, which will run until 8pm.

Steven Madeley, centre director of St David’s, said: “Weather forecasters can never tell whether we will have a white Christmas but we can guarantee a special snowfall at St David’s this Friday.

“We are bringing in special snow cannons from a company which created the snow scenes in movies such as the Chronicles of Narnia so we know that the effect will be very real and impressive. Everybody loves to see it snow and it will really help get families in the festive spirit in the run up to Christmas. We would like to invite families to visit us on The Hayes on Friday to witness the season’s first snowfall and to play in the snow with us as we switch on our Christmas lights.

“Christmas is the busiest time of year and we are expecting millions of visitors over the next six weeks to do their Christmas shopping. The snowfall will be the first event to give a magical start to our Christmas celebrations.”

The snowfall will begin at 4pm until 8pm on The Hayes at St David’s, Cardiff, with entertainment ongoing throughout the early evening. Children will be able to write their letters to Santa at the Royal Mail stand based on the upper level of Grand Arcade – in between H&M and Wally’s – but must include their home address and post them to the official address (Santa, Santa’s Grotto,  Reindeerland, SAN TA1) with a first-class stamp.
