Le Chocolatier to open in Eastside at St David’s

21st April 2010

An independent gourmet chocolate café has become the latest name to sign up within the Eastside restaurant quarter of St David’s.

St David’s in Cardiff is set to welcome Le Chocolatier which is the first outlet for Philip Ahn who has been working with All Things Chocolate to develop the luxurious chocolate concept. The independent café is scheduled to open this weekend within Lower Eastside while Bellini’s Express will also be opening its doors on Sunday.

Le Chocolatier will serve 60 different variations of hot chocolate as well as high quality coffees and milkshakes and a guilt-free skinny hot chocolate. The food offering includes cakes, shortbread, muffins and tiffins all made with rich chocolate as well as fresh handmade sandwiches, hot waffles with ice cream and scones.

Mr Ahn became a chef at the age of 16 and has worked with celebrity and Michelin star chefs such as Paul Merrett, taking up a love of chocolate early on.
He said: “Le Chocolatier is a culmination of many years of experience to create a new addition to the market. We have created our own unique chocolate recipe using the very best quality ingredients. It will be an experience to go somewhere which has broken away from the mould with local produce and a local influence.

St David’s is a fantastic opportunity for us and the city is the best place we could have chosen to open. The people of Cardiff are passionate about everything and I think they can be as passionate about Le Chocolatier as we are. Not only does chocolate taste fantastic and is one of most complex food substances with more than 500 different flavours but it is completely inclusive of everyone – it doesn’t matter what your religion, culture or dietary need is, they can be met. Then there is the feel good factor of sitting down and relaxing with a cup of chocolate, everyone will come in, be in good mood and enjoy it. It makes working in a chocolate shop so fun – no-one ever complains about chocolate.”

Steven Madeley, centre director for St David’s, said: “Le Chocolatier will be a welcome addition to our line up in Eastside. It is an independently run café and joins the likes of BOOF and Sale Pepe. I am sure our shoppers will look forward to sampling the dozens of hot chocolate the café offers.”
