'World village market' comes to Cardiff
20th May 2010
A unique street event showcasing goods from all over the world
Cardiff will take on an international feel when the ‘World Village Market’ arrives in town later this month.
The unique street market, with a festival atmosphere, will feature exotic cooking, homemade, healthy and traceable foods together with ethically traded, handmade, eco–friendly arts, crafts, clothing, jewellery, accessories and ideas from all over the world.
The event is taking place at Roald Dahl Plass from 28th to 31st May. Paul Kennedy of organisers, The Market Square Group, said: “Britain provides the most complete meeting place in the world with its rich heritage and mixtures of old and new. It also has one of the world’s richest food cultures with dishes from India, Thailand, the Caribbean, South America and Europe providing ingredients to our nation’s staple diet. The World Village Market will feature many of these dishes and enable visitors to learn more about the cultures behind them and, of course, there will be some local produce on offer too.”
The World Village Market will feature ‘Keen, Green and Ethical Goods’ and, to add to the festival atmosphere, there will be live music and craft demonstrations including chainsaw wood carving as well as energy saving initiatives. Paul added: ““We continue to see a demand for original products of good quality. A great many people care about where their food comes from and the ingredients that are used. Similarly, original, handmade and or ethically traded arts, crafts, clothing and jewellery are holding their own in these challenging economic times precisely because people are being more careful about how they spend their money.”
