Join in for June at Cardiff Bay
4th May 2010

Visitors to Cardiff Bay will be spoilt for choice this summer as it plays host to four events inviting you to ‘Join in for June’. From the historic Scott Memorial celebration to an energetic Outdoor Action Show, at the new location of the International Sports Village, the FREE events will be sure to entertain all ages!
Pont y Werin Opens
In June the 140 metre bridge will open to the general public and provide a brand new link for pedestrians and cyclists to cross between Penarth and the International Sports Village. The design incorporates a 20 metre opening section to allow river traffic to pass, and it provides the final link completing the Bay Edge Walkway and cycle route and connecting Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
12 to 15 - June Scott Centenary Celebrations
The Scott Society have organised a variety of activities celebrating Captain Scott & his Antarctic Exhibition. From the Tall Ship Stavros S Niarchos, which will open to the public in Roath Dock, to a guest lecture in Cardiff University by Sir Ranulph Fiennes the events promise to educate and entertain. Councillor Nigel Howells, Executive Member for Sport, Leisure & Culture said: The Bay’s event calendar for June is bigger and better than ever before and demonstrates our commitment to developing the unique events offer each year.
The opening of Cardiff International White Water (CIWW) this year has given us the opportunity to move the already popular Outdoor Action Show across to the International Sports Village site, allowing us to utilise this world class sport and leisure facility. CIWW has helped realise the Councils aim to deliver an International Sports Village, not only available to Cardiff residents but offering national and international appeal: putting the Welsh capital firmly on the map.
