Event-ful marketing campaign to attract tourists to Wales
10th June 2010
With heritage events proving an increasingly big draw with visitors, Cadw, the Welsh Assembly Government’s historic environment service, has launched a major new marketing campaign and dedicated website (www.cadwevents.co.uk) in support of its 2010 events programme.
Fancy watching battling knights at Harlech Castle? Or learn about life in the 17th century at Tretower Court and Castle? These are some of the highlights of Cadw’s 2010 events programme as Wales’s most famous castles and abbeys provide dramatic backdrops to a bumper bonanza of plays and pageants, battles and military displays.
Cadw is set to target stay-at-home holidaymakers this summer as well as tempting visitors from aboard with its new website, national radio adverts, billboard posters at bus and train stations in England and Wales, as well as an attractive new tabloid format events brochure. The brochure will be distributed to tourist information centres, Cadw monuments and all Visit Wales graded accommodation providers. Cadw will also be launching its first ever iphone application linked to the 2010 events calendar.
Jayne Rowlands, Cadw’s Head of Presentation said, “We’re delighted to bring a feast of events to Cadw monuments in 2010 as our events are some of the most colourful, action-packed and fun activities you will find anywhere in Wales and a fantastic way to introduce history to young and old. There really is something for everyone this year and our multi-faceted marketing campaign from phone apps to radio ads will hopefully ensure as many people as possible can find out about the wealth of history available in Wales over the coming months.”
Alun Ffred Jones, Heritage Minister, added, “Events at Cadw sites are a fantastic way to bring heritage to life and research has shown, time and time again, that events are what the public love and are deemed to add real value to a visit to a monument. I am confident this new marketing campaign will bring the wonders of Welsh heritage to thousands of new people across the UK and beyond.”
