Monsoon to open larger store at St David's
18th June 2010

Fashion store Monsoon is set to join the line up of leading fashion brands at St David’s in the heart of Cardiff along with shoe stores Foot Asylum, Barratts and Deichmann.
Monsoon Accessorize Ltd will open a 10,500 sq ft store on the upper level of the Grand Arcade, opposite Lakeland and JoJo Maman Bebe.
Foot Asylum will open a 6,697 sq ft store in the Town Wall South mall within St David’s while Barratt’s have taken a 3,025 sq ft store and family-owned German retailer Deichmann will open its first Welsh store of 8,080 sq ft.
Lettings to Monsoon and other fashion brands including Hollister, Hugo Boss and Kurt Geiger have quickly established St David’s as Wales’ premier fashion destination.
Joanne Skilton, of St David’s Partnership – a joint venture between Capital Shopping Centres and Land Securities, said: “We have a fantastic line up of retailers at St David’s and Monsoon is a welcome addition. It is a well-known brand with a strong following and we are sure that its location in St David’s will allow Monsoon the space to expand its collection in a brand new store.
“As St David’s has become Wales’ new fashion destination, it is continuing to attract quality retailers such as Monsoon and we expect this offering to strengthen throughout the year.
“We are also delighted with the interest shown by shoe retailers and know that these will be a real attraction, especially in the Town Wall South mall where we are expanding our fashion mix.”
The concept for Monsoon Accessorize Ltd was founded in 1973 and is a fashion and accessory retailer for women and children. The company has developed a strong brand with a distinctive identity, stocking exclusive, in-house designed collection. It is also a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative and has developed an ethical code for all suppliers to adhere to.
A spokesperson from Monsoon Accessorize said: “We are delighted to be opening a modern flagship store at St David’s, allowing us to display our full range of fashion.”
Selling branded fashion and footwear, Foot Asylum is a lifestyle footwear retailer with 20 high street stores, aiming to bring customers a conceptual and quirky shopping experience. Deichmann Shoes offers fashionable quality shoes at competitive prices combined with friendly service.
Clare Makin, estates manager for Foot Asylum said: “Taking a store at St David’s was an obvious step for us as our first store in Wales needed to be in the best possible location. We are considering several new locations for 2010 to increase our portfolio of 20 stores, and St David’s was a priority. St David’s provides a great fashion offering, and we are excited to bring the Foot Asylum concept to Cardiff in early August.”
Deichmann property manager, Robert Field, added: “We have been most impressed with St David’s and retailer feedback has been extremely positive. We choose our sites very carefully and we are confident that St David’s will be one of our top five UK stores.”
