WBC Night of Champions (29th - 31st July) First tranche of confirmed attendees announced

18th July 2010

Vitali Klitschko

The WBC (World Boxing Council) Night of Champions is a 3-day international boxing festival being held in Cardiff, at the Cardiff International Arena, 29th-31st July 2010. The event is a celebration of the sport of Boxing, with around 100 current and former world champions, and current rising stars of the sport expected to hit Cardiff over that weekend.

Event organisers today released the names of the ‘first tranche’ of Ring Legends confirmed to be attending, headlined by Roberto Duran and Vitali Klitschko. The list of about 40 names is attached.  Further announcements will be made as this week progresses, with star names already confirmed and waiting to be announced.

The festival runs over three days, and includes three fantastic all-star events, encompassing all aspects of the sport, as well as the arts in Wales.

The core of the festival comprises:

• The world film premiere of “Risen: The Howard Winstone Story”, a bio-pic of Merthyr boxing legend, Howard Winstone – a sporting great who overcame all odds to win a World Boxing title despite losing the fingers on one hand in an accident.
• An official pre-Olympic tournament between our British Olympic hopefuls in Team GB and some of the finest boxers from around the world in a “Rest of the World Team”.
• The Night of Champions gala awards dinner, honouring some of the sport’s greatest champions, as well as the unsung heroes that have made boxing great.

As well as the three main events, there will be various activities each night including live music from top Welsh and international bands; meet and greet sessions with the champions, and much, much more.

With around 100 World Champion boxers under the same roof at the same time, the WBC Night of Champions Festival is proving to be one of the greatest gatherings of champions in history.

All these events will be held at the Cardiff International Arena, and tickets are now on sale.
