Shannon Briggs to fight Vitali Klitchtko

The peaceful grounds of Cardiff Castle was the setting for an announcement today that reigning WBC heavyweight champion, Vitali Klitchtko will defend his title against former WBC champion, Shannon Briggs in Germany on 16 October.

The announcement was made by Shannon Briggs who is in Cardiff with past and present boxing champions as part of the Night of Champions Boxing Festival held in the city between 29 and 31 July.  The charismatic boxer and actor expressed his excitement at the prospect of the October fight against an opponent for which he has great respect.

In his first visit to the Welsh capital, Briggs said, “This is my first visit to Cardiff, the people are great, friendly, the food is good, the greenery – in fact I may not leave.”

Shannon Briggs will join the likes of Vitali Klitchtko, Joe Calzaghe and Roberto Duran on the red carpet at Cardiff International Arena tonight for the film premiere of ‘Risen’ – the story of Welsh boxing legend Howard Winstone. The three-day boxing festival is likely to see the greatest gathering of boxing champions from around the world. On Friday he will watch Great Britain’s amateur boxers take on the rest of the world and will attend a Gala Dinner on Saturday evening.
