New lease of life for Castle Arcade

5th July 2010

Castle Arcade

The good times look set to return for one the city’s favourite arcades, Castle Arcade, as new shops move in and existing businesses expand.

The recent opening of three new businesses, namely Cegin y Ddraig - the Dragon’s Kitchen, Celtic Cakes and games shop, Rules of Play could not have come at a better time for the arcade which will be at the heart of the city’s new Castle Quarter.  In addition Robert Barker’s clothing store which has been trading in the Castle Arcade for quarter of a century is doubling in size – expanding into neighbouring premises.

Jean-Paul Sterckx the owner of the Cegin y Ddraig - Dragon’s Kitchen is optimistic about the future.  He expressed great pride in the fact that the business has such a Welsh flavour, using local produce as much as possible, with only Welsh meat on the menu. The eatery also provides Welsh dairy ice cream which is proving extremely popular with customers.  Adding to the distinctly Welsh feel, the walls of the Cegin y Ddraig - Dragon’s Kitchen are adorned with the works of Welsh artists.
