Millennium Magic set for return to capital
16th August 2010
Rugby League’s showpiece event, Millennium Magic is set to return to Cardiff in 2011, providing a significant boost for the city’s hotel and leisure industry.
The decision to bring the popular event back to the Millennium Stadium was influenced by the ‘Cardiff Commitment’ – a scheme introduced by Cardiff & Co in partnership with the Cardiff Hoteliers’ Association and the Millennium Stadium. Under the tripartite agreement, 20% of the city’s hotel rooms will be made available for those attending the event at reasonable prices with additional accommodation for the event organises and participating teams.
Hywel Thomas, commenting on behalf of Cardiff & Co said, “This is excellent news and illustrates how partnership working is delivering for the city-region. The terms of the Cardiff Commitment is giving the city a competitive edge over other cities and proving attractive with event organisers and spectators. The announcement follows close on the heels of the 10th anniversary of the Speedway Grand Prix which attracted record crowds to the city – also part of the Cardiff Commitment.”
He added, “We look forward to welcoming this great rugby league spectacle back to the capital and I’m sure that the fans will enjoy the unique atmosphere of Cardiff’s compact city-centre and the delights of Cardiff Bay.”
