Calvin Klein underwear and Pulp opens first retail stores in Wales
23rd August 2010
Calvin Klein Underwear will join a strong line up of fashion brands when it opens its first retail store in Wales, at St David’s, Cardiff.
Iconic brand Calvin Klein will open its store in the upper level of the Grand Arcade, following a number of exciting names including the recent opening of edgy music-oriented fashion retailer, Pulp and the soon to open LA fashion brand Ed Hardy – both of which are new to Wales.
Known for its iconic advertising campaigns featuring top models, celebrities, and newly discovered talent, Calvin Klein Underwear will open a 1,853 sq ft store, close to John Lewis, Hollister and Guess at Wales’ premier shopping centre. Calvin Klein Underwear has existing stores in London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow in addition to many stores across Europe, the US, Canada and Asia.
Scott Wakefield, Calvin Klein Underwear Retail Manager UK & Eire said: “Calvin Klein Underwear is delighted to be opening its first retail store in Wales and we feel that Cardiff is the natural choice for this. We are very excited about being part of the new St David’s shopping centre which has brought a fantastic new injection of brands to the already bustling Welsh capital”.
Trendy alternative store PULP has opened a 2,603 sq ft store within the St David’s Walk mall in St David’s opposite Foot Asylum. PULP offers shoppers fashion inspired by music and popular culture from streetwear and alternative fashion brands to accessories and gifts for girls and guys between the ages of 14 and 29. PULP has eight UK stores with a further two planned to open this year, as part of its plan to open in busy retail locations in all major city centres across the country.
Ian Hopkins, director of PULP, said: “Everything at St David’s seemed right for us – the location, the size of the store, and most importantly the identifiable landmark. As a new business it is easy to direct our customers to a location like St David’s. The centre allows our customers a degree of confidence that we are a trustworthy business.”
Ed Hardy will open its second UK store at St David’s in the next month after taking a 2,317 sq ft store on The Hayes, next to All Saints. The brand is a strong favourite with celebrities, being worn by the likes of Madonna, Kanye West and Britney Spears. The fashionable brand was made famous by French fashion designer Christian Audigier when he produced the Ed Hardy clothing line, which is based on tattoo artist Don Ed Hardy’s designs.
G-Star will also be adding to St David’s mix of leading fashion brands by opening a brand new store within the shopping centre’s Grand Arcade. Leaders in unique, cutting edge design, G-Star has always kept denim at the centre of the brand, offering a wide variety of jeans that embrace the raw characteristics of denim whilst maintaining premium and individual styling.
Understanding that complimentary textures and styles can help ‘frame denim’ and present it in new light, the fashion forward G-Star brand also has an all-day, every occasion wardrobe that features a full range of jackets, shirts, knits, dresses and skirts.
Steven Madeley, centre director of St David’s, said: “Calvin Klein Underwear brings yet another quality retailer to the city. St David’s fashion line-up provides a strong offering of retailers which has attracted the iconic brand and will appeal to the fashion conscious shopper.
