Jam packed events calendar for September

Great British Cheese Festival

Cardiff keeps up the pace in September, with International cricket, and the Ryder Cup Welcome to Wales concert the sporting highlights of the month.

Food features highly as Cardiff Castle hosts the Great British Cheese Festival and the National History Museum stages the St Fagans Food Festival.

Celebrate Roald Dahl’s birthday in the Norwegian church where he was christened or choose from the range of shows, concert and comedy on stage at St David’s Hall.

September is also Mardi Gras time for the city’s LGBT communities, with a three-day festival followed by the main event at Cooper’s Field.

Mardi Gras (2nd to 4th)

This year the Mardi Gras main event on 4th September at Cooper’s Field, behind Cardiff Castle, features The Mardi Gras Main Stage - with some great national and local acts; The Admiral Cabaret Garden - showcasing some of the best Cabaret Acts around and The Gaydar Dance Arena - with some of the freshest and hardest anthems courtesy of some of the UK's top Club DJ's. Find out more.


England v Pakistan – Twenty 20 cricket internationals (5th and 7th)

England’s top players – the current world T20 champions -  take on the previous champions in two matches, on Sunday 5th at 2.30pm and Tuesday 7th at 6pm at the Swalec Stadium. Interest will be high after England’s 3-1 test match series victory over Pakistan. England’s captain for the T20 series, Paul Collingwood, spoke of his enthusiasm about returning to Cardiff. "I'll always remember the fantastic atmosphere generated by the crowd in Cardiff during the first npower Ashes Test match last year,” he said. “The support we got from the fans gave the team a huge boost, and I know that I speak on behalf of the rest of the lads when I say we're all looking forward to returning to Cardiff for the NatWest T20 series against Pakistan." St Fagans Food Festival (11th and 12th)

Call in to see a feast of Welsh produce, cooking demonstrations and taster sessions in this exciting new festival at the National History Museum. Sample delicious local produce while you enjoy the unique open-air setting of St Fagans. This free event includes cookery demonstrations, over 50 suppliers of high quality Welsh produce, Art in the Allotment, tours & talks and family friendly events. Find out more.


Roald Dahl Day @ Norwegian Church (12th)

Celebrate Roald Dahl’s birthday a day early in Cardiff Bay at the Norwegian Church, where he was christened. Formerly a Norwegian Sailors Church, the Centre is one of the landmark buildings on Cardiff Bay’s waterfront and a renowned cultural venue. With an exciting programme of arts exhibitions, concerts, hospitality and events and one of the cosiest coffee shops on the waterfront.


Great British Cheese Festival (25th & 26th)

If you love fabulous food, great fun and good company, join us at the Great British Cheese Festival at Cardiff Castle - the focal point of the cheese lovers' calendar. Join thousands of other foodies and come and taste a cornucopia of sheep, cow, goat and even buffalo cheeses along with artisan wine, cider, perry and beer.  Set against the magnificent backdrop of Cardiff Castle, with fabulous music and entertainment - where else would you want to be! Ryder Cup Welcome to Wales concert (29th)

‘Welcome to Wales’ at the Millennium Stadium, will be the signature event that will galvanize The 2010 Ryder Cup celebrations in spectacular style. Set in stunning surroundings and featuring musical performances by international superstars including popular Welsh artists, along with appearances by special guests, 'Welcome to Wales' features Katherine Jenkins, Catherine Zeta Jones, Only Men Aloud and Lost prophets.
