Cardiff Miller & Carter's Steak Voted ‘The World's Best’

14th September 2010

Steak lovers in Cardiff can now enjoy ‘The World’s Best’ steaks at a restaurant in Cardiff Bay, after they were rated number one in a blind taste test of the finest cuts of beef from around the globe.

The steaks at the Miller & Carter steakhouse on Hemingway Road came top in a taste test involving a panel of leading chefs, food journalists and professionals from the meat industry, organised by Cook Magazine.

The jury named the steakhouse’s Ashdale variety number one, after comparing ten of the world’s finest rib-eye cuts.

Sarah Francis, manager at the Cardiff steakhouse, said: "This is terrific recognition from the people who know about great food. The whole of our team share the passion of British farmers for producing the best. Our Ashdale beef is sourced directly from a select number of hand-picked farms in the West Country."

Comments from the judges included praise for the steak’s tenderness, character and excellent texture. Judges also noted the pronounced taste of the beef and most of the jury agreed, with differences in opinion about the various meats being minimal.
The menu at the Cardiff steakhouse features traditional cuts such as the Sirloin and the Rump, which are aged on the bone for a minimum of seven days, before being matured for a further 21 days, ensuring the meat is flavoursome and tender. The premium cuts of Porterhouse and T-bone are matured on the bone for a minimum of 28 days, making the beef melt-in-the-mouth.
Cardiff Miller & Carter’s dedicated master butcher prepares the steaks to exact specification and every manager and kitchen manager attends the Steak School, ensuring the whole team knows how to bring out the best in the fantastic West Country beef.
