Capital FM launches in South Wales

4th January 2011

Capital FM projection

This morning Capital FM hit the airwaves across South Wales for the very first time, giving listeners their first taste of the new Hit Music Station.  Breakfast duo Kam & Sally kicked off the momentous occasion with their live show at 10am.

As well as Kam & Sally between 6am-10am who will now present their breakfast show every weekday, 97.4/103.2 Capital FM will also feature Leigh Jones who will present the drive-time slot from 4pm-7pm.  Capital FM will also introduce new radio talent to the region, including Roberto on the weekday mid-morning show from 10am-1pm, followed by the Bassman at 1pm-4pm and Rich Clarke from 7pm-11pm.

The new station offers listeners an established and trusted brand, delivered locally to South Wales.  The move by Global Radio, the UK’s largest commercial radio group, is part of a plan to create a strong and trusted network of stations covering major cities in the UK, broadcasting the best hit music to its listeners, as well as the hottest showbiz and artist interviews, the biggest events, local news, traffic & travel.

Capital South Wales joins eight other stations across the UK to form the Capital Network, which includes stations in the East Midlands, Birmingham, Manchester, North East, Yorkshire, South Coast, Scotland and London.

Kam Kelly breakfast presenter for 97.4/103.2 Capital FM said; “Launching Capital South Wales has been a huge honour and what a great way to start the New Year.  We look forward to waking up Wales with Capital!”

A TV campaign for the station will also break across South Wales today and features some of the world’s biggest artists including Rihanna, The Black Eyed Peas, Nicole Scherzinger and JLS, showing their support for Capital FM. The TV ad is available to view here.

Plans are also in place to launch a brand new charity for the area - ‘Help A Capital Child’ which will be supported across the entire national Capital network, with grants awarded locally in South Wales - building on the invaluable work and 12-year heritage of ‘Help a South Wales Child’.
