Lego store invites shoppers to bring Cardiff to life
11th February 2011

The newly opened LEGO store in St David’s is celebrating its arrival to Cardiff by inviting shoppers to help construct a giant LEGO display of their favourite Cardiff landmarks.
The 3-day grand opening event, beginning on the 19th February, will invite families to take part in a hands-on build using thousands of LEGO red bricks.
From Cardiff Castle and the Millennium Stadium, to the Senedd and Wales Millennium Centre, the individual models produced will be combined to create a giant high impact LEGO landscape of the city, which will come to life, brick-by-brick over the course of the three days.
The freeform build will take place in the Atrium area of St David’s, near Watches of Switzerland, between 10am-4pm from the 19th-21st February. The event will be staffed by the LEGO store team and will be free for shoppers participate in.
Additionally the first 300 customers to spend over £20 in the LEGO store in St David’s on each of the 3 days, will receive an exclusive LEGO gift and will be entered into a raffle for the chance to win their own LEGO Tower Bridge.
St David’s is the first shopping destination in Wales to offer visitors access to a LEGO Brand Retail store, one of the world’s largest toy manufacturers. The store, situated on the Lower Level of Grand Arcade in St David’s is only the fifth to be opened in the UK.
Steven Madeley, centre director of St David’s, said: “The LEGO Store has already generated a real sense of excitement amongst our shoppers. The grand opening sculpture event will allow children and families to get involved in building themselves and will give those who are yet to experience the creativity and vision of the LEGO brand, a chance to witness it first hand.”
The LEGO store in St David’s includes a Master Builder Bar where shoppers can play games, view LEGO Club TV videos and learn how to build LEGO models, as well as the Pick A Brick wall which features dozens of LEGO bricks for customers to customise their own collection. It also carries a wide selection of LEGO products, together with the classic family favourites and branded merchandise for all ages, including the new award-winning LEGO Games, Harry Potter-themed sets, the best-selling CREATOR and CITY lines, and LEGO DUPLO® sets for pre-school children.
