A Welsh Diva for Welsh Kids with cancer

17th March 2011

Katherine Jenkins

One of Wales’ most cherished singing stars – Katherine Jenkins – has announced a very special concert for the summer where she will sing to change the lives of children with terminal cancer.

The concert called “The Time for Dreams” has been created by Katherine in partnership with The Joshua Foundation and will take place at the Vale Resort in Hensol on Saturday 25 June.

The festival is expected to be one of the highlights of this year’s classical calendar and will take place in the magnificent grounds of Hensol Castle with an anticipated audience of 5,000 people.

Katherine’s appearance will be the highlight of a line-up of musical celebrations which will include entertainment from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, aspiring stars competing for the title Young Female Classical Singer of the Year and the Diva Choir. This choir was formed especially for this concert and is made up of 80 women, all amateur singers who have been in rehearsal since last September. Many of the choir members work at HSBC Swansea and Eversheds Solicitors, Cardiff.

The main concert will start at 7.30pm. Katherine will be accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Anthony Inglis.

Katherine said: “To combine my passion for singing with the opportunity to change the lives of children with terminal cancer is both an honour and a privilege. I am proud to be Welsh and feel humbled to be able to help Welsh children who are finding the strength to fight this terrible disease.”

Sarah Cornelius-Price, president of The Joshua Foundation, said: “The charity has grown to become one of the most prolific charities in Wales and every day I am thrilled to be able to do a little bit more to help.

“To welcome Katherine into our fold for this one off celebration is a dream come true. We are delighted to be working with her and would like to thank her wholeheartedly for the wonderful difference she is going to make for children in Wales with cancer.”

Tickets for the Time For Dreams go on sale from Monday 7 March. All proceeds from the event will go to The Joshua Foundation. See www.thejoshuafoundation.co.uk for further details of booking tickets or call 02920 667271.
