The Gothic charm of Castell Coch needs your votes!
16th May 2011
Cadw’s fairytale like Castell Coch near Cardiff has been shortlisted in the ‘Britain’s best country house’ category in the Countryfile Magazine Awards 2011.
The Countryfile Magazine Awards are a celebration of the countryside and its people. The awards were launched in the April issue of Countryfile Magazine, and feature 10 categories, from conservation projects and food heroes to country writers and our finest nature reserves.
Built originally as a secondary residence by the 3rd Marquess of Bute and his architect William Burges, Cadw is now asking the public to vote for Castell Coch as their favourite.
Diane Williams, Head of Public Engagement Cadw, said, “It’s great to see Castell Coch, which surely ranks as one of the quirkiest of Welsh historic sites, getting the recognition it deserves. I urge as many people as possible to vote for this Welsh wonder as it would be great to see it crowned as the UK’s best country house.”
Full details and an Awards voting form can be found on Countryfile Magazine’s website at www.countryfile.com, or votes can be emailed to awards@countryfile.com. Voting closes on 1 June 2011.
