Centre joins forces with BigLittleCity, launching exciting art competition

25th May 2011

Ceri Brockway, Marketing Manager, Queens Arcade and Dan Green of BigLittleCity:Cardiff at the launchQueens Arcade Shopping Centre has joined forces with BigLittleCity:Cardiff to launch its 'Arcade Art' competition for Cardiff artists.

The Centre's Marketing Manager, Ceri Brockway and Dan Green, one of the founders of BigLittleCity:Cardiff, currently hosting an exhibition at The Cardiff Story in the Old Library on The Hayes, are excited at the prospect of showcasing Cardiff's creative talent and to bringing artists to as wide an audience as possible.

'Arcade Art' has been launched to provide just that opportunity. The competition is open to entries from now until July 1st and Ceri and Dan are urging everyone to get behind their local artists and persuade them to enter. The competition is open to artists in different creative fields, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography and other 'traditional' media people usually think of when entering 'art competitions'. But it is also open to artists who work with newer technologies, including street art, film, modelling and music!

Indeed Ceri and Dan are at pains to emphasise the inclusiveness of the competition as it reflects the diversity of Cardiff's talent and highlights the BigLittleCity:Cardiff ethos, says Dan, "the Arcade Art competition, and indeed the whole exhibition itself, are invitations to get involved in the telling of the Cardiff story."

Ceri agrees, "We are encouraging entrants to look at our City from one of three angles, People, Places, Stories and to set out their interpretation for us. We have already received photographic and street art submissions and are looking forward to entries from a wide variety of artists from within Cardiff's huge creative community."

Artists wishing to submit their work for consideration should go to the entry page on the Queens Arcade website www.queensarcade.info. The winning artist in each category will win a space at the Centre's 'Summer Exhibition' and the opportunity to show their work and sell it to a wider audience.
