Cardiff Festival is worth flying for – says America’s OUT magazine

4th May 2011

Iris Prize Festival 2011America’s leading gay fashion and lifestyle magazine OUT has identified the Iris Prize Festival as one of six unique film festivals in the world. The article in the May 2011 issue tells its readers that Iris is worth flying for, describing Cardiff as Wales’s increasingly cosmopolitan capital.

“This is excellent news for Iris. In a short space of time Iris has become a significant Cardiff event with aspirations to be a true international player. Carefully, with passion and dedication the team behind the festival have guided Iris on a spectacular journey. I expect much more from Iris in the future and I’m sure that this kind of recognition will help a wider international audience to discover Iris,” said Matthew Rhys, Brothers and Sisters star and Iris Festival Patron.

“We are very proud and excited at how quickly Iris has established herself on the international arena. Iris is a perfect example of a niche festival which has the capacity to grow further and become a major event. Cardiff has played a significant role in helping Iris develop, the principal venues at Cineworld and Chapter, the restaurants, hotels and clubs together offer an intimate and lively experience which is perfect for Iris,” said Andrew Pierce, Festival Patron.

OUT Magazine – this is what they had to say:

"Iris Prize Festival, Cardiff, Wales
Frequently glossed over short films get their proper prestige alongside a small sidebar of features in Wales's increasingly cosmopolitan capital.
Juried by filmmakers, actors and authors like Alan Hollinghurst, around 30 flicks, all less than 35 minutes, compete for the prize. Expect a more intimate, intellectual vibe.
Who it’s for: Cineasts with ADD
October 5-8; IrisPrize.org"
