Young musicians nurture city’s café culture
3rd August 2011
Talented young musicians are helping to bring a new café culture to the centre of Cardiff.
Working with Café Nero, Cardiff Council is presenting an evening to showcase the work of two talented Cardiff based singer songwriters - James Mervyn Harris and Thoby Davis on Friday 5th August.
They will be supported at Café Nero opposite Cardiff Castle, by Ellie James, a pupil from Cantonian High School who is taking part in one of the city’s music programmes.
Emma Coulthard, music development officer for Cardiff Council, is behind the scheme. She said: “ The idea is to promote good music in an environment that is not alcohol based, and to create more of a Café culture, so that the musicians really feel listened too.
“Both Thoby and James play regularly in Cardiff, but the pub environment is not very artistically satisfying, as the music tends to be a background activity!
“Cafe Nero as a company are strong supporters of music, and have had artists on tour, but this is the first time they have looked to nurture local artists, and so we have the perfect partnership. “
