Cardiff welcomes double success in tourism awards

Cardiff was the runner up in the best UK city category in awards judged by readers of Group Leisure magazine.
The city was ahead of fellow finalists London and York, while Liverpool took the title.
Southern Wales Tourism, the body responsible for promoting Cardiff and South East Wales to the travel trade as a holiday destination was also a finalist in the same awards, in the best tourist board category.
The awards, organised by Group Leisure, set the benchmark for recognising excellence throughout the group travel industry.
Richard Thomas, managing director of Cardiff & Co, the company set up to raise the profiule of the Cardiff city region, said: “To be nominated as a finalist in these awards shows how far Cardiff has come. Clearly readers of Group Travel recognise the advantages of Cardiff for groups and we will be working hard to build on this awarenes and persuade more people to visit.”
Pat Crimp, chair of Southern Wales Tourism and head of networks and business development for Cardiff & Co, said “Our partners have all worked hard over the last year to ensure we present our region's product offer to the travel trade in the best and most flexible way across a range of channels. We are pleased that this has been recognised by the groups market at this award ceremony.”
