Castle improvements under way
2nd February 2012
Major works are underway at Cardiff Castle on the Castle Moat to improve the visitor experience and enhance the sense of arrival at one of the UK’s most important historic sites.
All the ticketing operations will be moved from the temporary office which stood on Castle Street into the Interpretation Centre within the Castle grounds.
Landscaping around the drawbridge will make this area far more attractive to the thousands of visitors who arrive in the city to visit the Castle. Improved pedestrian crossings outside the Castle will also make it easier for visitors to reach the Castle Quarter, Cardiff’s beautiful historic arcades, and St Davids 2 shopping centre.
The work should be finished by the spring in time for the Castle’s busiest period. Coaches will continue to be able to pick up and drop off at the entrance of the Castle.
2012 promises to be another busy year at the Castle with a host of events planned. Highlights include a stunning jousting tournament, open air performances of Macbeth, the Great British Cheese Festival and a nostalgic trip back to the 1940s as we celebrate the 65th anniversary of the gift of Cardiff Castle to the people of Cardiff.
Full details are available on the Cardiff Castle website www.cardiffcastle.com. Spaces are limited for many events, so you are advised to book your tickets as early as possible. Last year many events sold out very quickly leaving many people disappointed and we expect demand to be even higher for 2012.
