The new £22.5 development is making good progress. The shape of the new Concert Hall and public foyer is now visible as the concrete slab nears completion and work continues to the rest of the site. The new concert hall will have a capacity of 450 while our new Courtyard Theatre will seat 160. The facilities, along with four drama and movement studios, an exhibition arcade and public foyer will open early in 2011. With views over the Grade 1 listed Bute Park, the facilities will be available for hire for conference and events.

Some construction facts about the development:

• The building will use 10,000 tonnes of concrete
• 230 concrete piles have been sunk
• 300 tonnes of steel  will be use I the construction
• Over 50 subcontracting companies are involved in the project, led by our main contractor Willmott Dixon.
• Up to 300 workers will be on site at any one time
• 10 times that number are involved in the project in some way

The new development is due for completion Feb 2011
