Future Inns has celebrated its fifth year of opening in Cardiff Bay by supporting the Cardiff International Food and Drink Festival, which starts today (Friday July 9).

The sponsorship is part of a wider backing of Cardiff Council and sees them become the Partner Hotel to Cardiff Bay until March next year.

Future Inns first opened in 2005 as a key part of the Cardiff Bay regeneration project. Since then, the six-storey, 197-room hotel has accommodated more than 300,000 guests, served more than £5 million-worth of food and drink and created hundreds of jobs following the initial £16.5 million investment.

The hotel is also the key sponsor of Wales Millennium Centre, which is a two minute walk from its doors.

Del Brett, managing director of Future Inns, said: “We are thrilled to be involved with Cardiff Council and the many events that are held in Cardiff Bay each summer.

“Sponsoring the Cardiff International Food and Drink Festival is the perfect way to mark the five-year anniversary of us being in Cardiff Bay and I am sure it will serve up some incredible gastronomic treats.

“The support of the Cardiff Bay Events continues our excellent relationship with surrounding organisations, including Wales Millennium Centre.”

Nigel Howells, Councillor for Sport, Leisure and Culture at Cardiff Council, said:
“It is a privilege to welcome Future Inns as a Partner Hotel to Cardiff Bay Events as part of their five-year celebrations.

“As an important part of the Bay they have played a significant role in consolidating the regeneration project and bringing in other businesses to the region.”

Cardiff Bay was the first UK hotel built for Future Inns, which also has its headquarters at the hotel. Since 2005, the company has also built in Plymouth and most recently in Bristol.

Mathew Milsom, Wales Millennium Centre’s General Manager, said: “Future Inns has shown immense vision and confidence in Wales Millennium Centre from the outset, and we are delighted that our partnership has borne fruits for both the Centre and for the hotel over the past five years.”

The economic impact of organisations such as Future Inns within the Bay regeneration project has also recently resulted in Cardiff’s coolest social scene develop in the shape of Mermaid Quay.

Del Brett said: “Working in an environment where there is so much opportunity and good will is both refreshing and enjoyable and we are looking forward to building on this over the coming years.”
