We are really pleased to tell you that the Big Gig is returning this year. This exciting band competition has a rich history of providing a springboard for young bands to gain wider recognition and raise their profile to a much wider audience.
The winner will receive rehearsal time at Musicbox Studios plus recording time with top producer Charlie Francis as well as further prizes to be announced.
The competition semi-finals will take place at Fuel on 14th March and 17th March at Cathays Community Centre. The grand final will be upstairs at the legendary Clwb Ifor Bach on 5th April. Entry is open to anyone over 16 see terms and conditions.

Terms and Conditions:
Please read these carefully BEFORE completing the application form:
1 – The competition is open to Artists based in South Wales ONLY
2 – Applicants who applied for last year’s Big Gig are welcome to re-apply
3 – Each entrant must submit at least ONE original song. Cover versions should seek to reinterpret the original both vocally and musically rather than being based on pre-recorded backing tracks. Innovative use of sampling however is welcome
4 – The criteria for shortlisting will be:
- Musical ability
- Song writing ability
- Presentation of information
5 – Shortlisting for the over-18s competition will be undertaken by with the best six going through to the final. The decision of the events team will be final and no correspondence will be entered into with any artist in the case of an unsuccessful application
6 – Artists must be available to perform at both the semi finals and finals of the competition on:
- 14 March at Fuel
- 17 March at Cathays Community Centre
- 5 April at Clwb Ifor Bach
7 – Bands that have members younger than the age of 18 will be eligible for the Youth competition run by Under Construction
8 – Whilst the organisers will take a broad view on what constitutes artistic licence, swearing and the expression of opinions likely to cause offence will disqualify artists from further consideration.
