The SSE SWALEC has become famous for hosting some of sport’s most prestigious contests, but the warm Welsh welcome doesn’t stop at cricket.
Situated within Sophia Gardens and adjacent to the city centre and River Taff, The SSE SWALEC is Cardiff’s 16,000-seater cricket stadium in the heart of the city and home of Glamorgan Cricket since 1967 following the move from Cardiff Arms Park.
Following an extensive redevelopment, the venue has become an established venue for international cricket, becoming the 100th cricket ground in the world to stage Test cricket in 2009 with the hugely memorable Ashes Test, a feat successfully repeated with the 1st Ashes Test Match of the 2015 Series.
The Welsh capital will host both ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 fixtures, once again bringing the world’s best players together. In 2017 less than 2 weeks after the tournament AB de Villier’s South Africa team return to Cardiff to face England, whilst a full programme of county cricket including 7 NatWest T20 Blast Glamorgan fixtures will be played from April to September.
Away from cricket the 16,000-seat Test Match Venue is also a thriving event space and an established community hub including stadium tours, live music concerts and theatre, professional darts tournaments along with a wide variety of corporate events.
