One of Cardiff’s most scenic and historic shopping streets.
The Hayes has been transformed in recent years to become a bustling pedestrianised shopping thoroughfare in the city.
The Hayes is lined with grand Edwardian and Victorian buildings on one side and St David’s on the other. You’ll find designer shops and boutique stores, with big names such as Kurt Geiger, Radley, Molton Brown, Cath Kidston and Hugo Boss.
There’s also plenty of opportunity to relax and people watch with several restaurants and coffee shops including Jamie’s Italian.
The Hayes is now one of Cardiff’s most scenic and historic shopping streets. You can walk along the Hayes from one of Cardiff’s most modern buildings, Cardiff Central Library – to one of its oldest, the 15th century St John’s Church. En route you pass Cardiff’s Old Library which is home to the Cardiff Tourist Information Centre.
Behind the Old Library you’ll find Howell’s Department Store – now part of the House of Fraser Group. Howell’s which is Cardiff’s oldest department store, dating back to 1865. Within the store, which expanded in the 1920’s you’ll find the Bethany Chapel, which was built on the site of an earlier chapel. The food hall stocks Welsh goods including cheeses, chocolate, whiskey and beers.
