Millennium Stadium to host tribute for Michael Jackson

27th July 2011

Millennium StadiumA one-off Michael Jackson tribute concert will be played in front of 70,000 fans at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in October.

The Michael Forever Tribute Concert, scheduled for Saturday, October 8, is supported by the Jackson family.

Jackson's mother Katherine, 81, said: "This is a world class event so I decided to join in. When I was told about the possible line-up I knew it would be a show fit for a king.”

The full line-up will be announced through the event's website before a press conference in London on Wednesday, August 3. Tickets go on sale on the website the following day.

Ticket sales will involve a donation to charities, including the Aids Project Los Angeles and Princes Trust, both of which Jackson supported. Michael Jackson appeared at the former National Stadium in Cardiff in1988 and 1992.

James McLaren wrote on the BBC Music website: “This concert is planned to be shown in 30 countries in 2D and 3D. If this event is pulled off, Cardiff's reputation as a host city for major events will be massively enhanced.”
