Cardiff University

Cardiff University

Cardiff is the one of the UK’s leading universities. The city’s oldest and largest university is based amidst the parks, Portland stone buildings and tree-lined avenues that form Cardiff’s elegant civic centre, just a few minutes walk from the city centre.

The University has an outstanding reputation for its teaching and research activities and is a member of the Russell Group of leading UK research institutions. Its 28 academic schools offer around 500 courses with more than 40 accredited by professional bodies. These include Accounting, Architecture, City and Regional Planning, Dentistry, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Optometry and Pharmacy etc.

The University has around 28,000 students, including 6000 postgraduates, drawn from over 100 countries worldwide.

Cardiff attaches great importance to the provision of high quality accommodation for its students and accommodation is guaranteed for some groups of students including all undergraduates in their first year. The University has 5100 modern study bedrooms with a range of facilities, the vast majority of which are within walking distance of the academic schools and the Students’ Union.
 
The Students’ Union is widely recognised as one of the biggest, best and most active in the UK. It boasts three live venues and regularly hosts international and local bands. The union is also home to the Xpress FM – the student radio station and the award winning student paper, Gair Rhydd.

Cardiff Metropolitan University (UWIC)

Proud of its reputation for providing a student-centred approach to learning and first-class teaching, and boasting a culture within which applied research flourishes, Cardiff Metropolitan University(UWIC) is a confident, forward-thinking and metropolitan higher education institution with a history tracing back to the 19th century.

With a wealth of tradition in providing an extensive range of career-focused programmes and training opportunities, many of which are accredited by professional bodies, Cardiff Metropolitan University consistently achieves one of the best graduate employability rates in the country.

In addition to outstanding academic and learning facilities, the institution’s students also have access to an active Students Union, clubs and societies and some of the best sports facilities in the UK including the acclaimed National Indoor Athletics Centre.

Having invested £50m to improve its campuses and further enhance the student experience, the institution has a new Food Industry Centre and a cutting-edge new home for the Cardiff School of Management. Attracting students from more than 125 countries, Cardiff Metropolitan University was also recently ranked as the best new university in Wales by in essential guides published by both the Guardian and the Independent.

University of Glamorgan

Every year, over 23,000 students choose the University of Glamorgan. With modern campuses in Cardiff and Pontypridd, the University is renowned for its friendly atmosphere and quality teaching, learning and leisure facilities.

The University offers over 200 courses that all provide the right balance of academic and work-related skills to give students a real advantage in today’s competitive job market, resulting in one of the best graduate employment rates in the UK.

In September 2007, the University opened its landmark Cardiff campus at the heart of the city. ATRiuM is home to the Cardiff School of Creative & Cultural Industries, which brings together the creative disciplines of Design, Media & Communication and Drama & Music. In this specially-designed building, students learn using cutting-edge technology and industry-standard equipment.

The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama is part of the University Of Glamorgan Group and is the National Conservatoire of Wales. From its city centre campus, the College provides specialist practical and performance-based training that enables students to enter and influence the worlds of music, theatre and related professions. 

The College trains and educates some of the most talented students from around the world, aiming to give them not just the technical and craft skills they will need to operate at the top levels of the profession, but also to help them to discover and develop their individual artistic ‘voice’.
