Cardiff is the one of the UK’s leading universities. The city’s oldest and largest university is based amidst the parks, Portland stone buildings and tree-lined avenues that form Cardiff’s elegant civic centre, just a few minutes walk from the city centre.
The University has an outstanding reputation for its teaching and research activities and is a member of the Russell Group of leading UK research institutions. Its 28 academic schools offer around 500 courses with more than 40 accredited by professional bodies. These include Accounting, Architecture, City and Regional Planning, Dentistry, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Optometry and Pharmacy etc.
The University has around 25,000 students, including 6000 postgraduates, drawn from over 100 countries worldwide.
Cardiff attaches great importance to the provision of high quality accommodation for its students and accommodation is guaranteed for some groups of students including all undergraduates in their first year. The University has 5100 modern study bedrooms with a range of facilities, the vast majority of which are within walking distance of the academic schools and the Students’ Union.
The Students’ Union is widely recognised as one of the biggest, best and most active in the UK. It boasts three live venues and regularly hosts international and local bands. The union is also home to the Xpress FM – the student radio station and the award winning student paper, Gair Rhydd.
