Olympic football in Cardiff

This year the Olympic and Paralympic games come to the UK, attracting millions of visitors from around the world. The Olympics will feature 26 sports, for games covering 39 disciplines and the Paralympics programmes features 20 sports. The opening ceremony on 27th July will be watched by billions across the world.
Olympic Torch relay
The Olympic Flame is one of the enduring symbols of the Olympic Games, representing peace, unity and friendship. As it is carried around the UK for the Olympic Torch Relay it will bring the spirit of the Games to everyone.
Lit in Olympia, Greece, in a traditional ceremony, the Olympic Flame will arrive in the UK on 18 May 2012. On a 70-day journey across the UK, the Flame will be carried by 8,000 Torchbearers, generating excitement as it makes its way to London and the Opening Ceremony of the Games. The torch will arrive in Cardiff on Friday 25th May for an evening celebration before heading on to Dinas Powys, Barry, Caerphilly and Pontypridd the next day. Olympic Football in Cardiff
Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium will see the first action of the 2012 Olympic Games – two days before the opening ceremony, when four of the qualifying women’s football teams will play a double header of group games. The stadium hosts 11 matches on eight dates in both the men’s and women’s football competitions, starting on Wednesday 25th July and finishing with the men’s bronze medal match on 10th August.
