Enjoy views across the city, bay and Bristol Channel from the Barrage, with its landscaped embankment, play area and much more. Easily reached on foot or by bicycle from the Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre.

The Barrage itself is an award winning civil engineering project, which created the freshwater Bay we know today! As a result of the construction of the Barrage and the re-development of the docks area, a multitude of water activities, land based events, new business and visitor attractions have located to Cardiff Bay.

The recreational and commercial water users have also benefited from 24hr access to the Bristol Channel, which has doubled the amount of resident moorings at Cardiff’s local yacht clubs.

Extending from Penarth headland to Cardiff Docks, this 800m linear embankment will shortly link up with the Inner Harbour, as Cardiff Harbour Authority have commenced work on the new section of the Bay Edge Walkway. In the summer the public are welcome onto the Barrage until 8pm from April to September, with shortened hours during the winter months.
