Cardiff International White Water (CIWW) is an on demand white water facility and indoor surf centre, in the International Sports Village, only a few miles from Cardiff’s bustling city centre. Since it opened four years ago it has already hosted the 2012 and 2013 ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup, been hailed as ‘Best Visitor Experience’ in the Visit Wales awards and regularly provided challenging training courses for UK-wide rescue services. For the majority of visitors though its greatest appeal is the range of exciting leisure activities that it offers for adventure-seekers of all ages and abilities!
With up to six people in a raft, one of the most sociable activities is White Water Rafting. Suitable for complete beginners and white water veterans, the two hour coached sessions are adrenaline fuelled fun from start to finish. Also as the Centre can control the level of the water on a Sunday morning, the staff lower the speed of the water to accommodate younger children (age 8+) so that families can also enjoy riding the rapids.
Other action-packed white water activities include River Boarding, Hot Dogging, Canoeing and Kayaking. If you are looking for a more relaxed environment, the flat water area used for training is also great for Paddle Courses and the new fitness craze Stand Up Paddle Boarding.
Otherwise why not try Indoor Surfing? The simulated surf machine provides the thrills and reliability of surfing all year round in the convenience of a city location. Great for novices and board sport enthusiasts, visitors start with body boarding on the stomach and then progress to stand up surfing, with prices starting from only £25 per person for a 90 minute session.
Looking for something different for the kids to do during the holidays? This summer children can take part in a five day ‘Surf School’ where they enjoy four coached sessions at the Centre, and then on the last day put their experience to the test with a surf session at Porthcawl beach. Extra Family Rafting sessions and paddle activities are also offered during school holidays.
Otherwise why not pop into the Centre and just enjoy a drink and a bite to eat on the balcony and watch others take on the challenge of the white water? Or stuck for the perfect Birthday or Christmas gift? A range of gift vouchers are available to buy at reception.
CIWW is open all year round, and all kit and training is provided. Age restrictions and terms and conditions apply. To find out more or to make a booking contact the CIWW team on 029 2082 9970, visit www.ciww.com or find them on Facebook and Twitter.
