Firing Line tells the stories of the Welsh Soldier and of Wales’ oldest and most distinguished regiments, 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards and The Royal Welsh. The Regimental history comprises that of 1st King's Dragoon Guards, Queen's Bays (2nd Dragoon Guards), 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards, The 24th Regiment of Foot (The South Wales Borderers), The 41st Regiment of Foot (The Welch Regiment), The 69th Regiment of Foot, The Royal Regiment of Wales (24th/41st Foot) and The Royal Welsh.

Soldiers from these two Regiments – one Cavalry, the other Infantry – have taken part in virtually all of Britain’s major conflicts over the past 300 years, and their story provides a detailed backdrop to Britain’s military history since the 17th Century. Campaigns include the Battle of Ramillies in 1706, the Battle of Waterloo (1815), the Anglo-Zulu wars of 1879 as well as both World Wars. The Museum provides a deep understanding of this history, and of why ordinary people are prepared to carry out extraordinary and outstanding acts of courage and selfless commitment. Research on the Regiments can be carried out by Our Curatorial team.

The museum has a dynamic programme of public events, including exhibitions that change three times a year, using reserve Regimental collections to illustrate the reality of service within the Armed Forces. There is a thriving Lecture series, with associated workshops and special events.

The Firing Line Museum has a diverse range of Educational Programmes, including object sessions, spotters’ trails and dressing up activities. The museum is the perfect environment to explore subjects such as History, Literature, Geography, Science, Art & Technology as well as Communication and Citizenship. Our educational sessions offer a unique opportunity for children to come into contact with historic objects and gain a better understanding of the impact that military history has had and continues to have on our lives. The museum can offer on-site workshops, as well as pre-visits to local schools.
